Poor Old Lu - All Pretty For The T.V. Lyrics
We had recorded this song once before at Innovations Music & Media, where Straight Six was recorded. It was rough, but pop-y. At the time, this was probably our most exciting song and, in fact, quickly became a crowd favorite. Eventually, we would have friends 3NP join us on stage for a hip-hop style interlude in the middle. The album version features sound-bites taken from Swirling Eddie's video "Spittle & Phlegm", at our request. With notions of televangelism sprinkled throughout the lyrics, this song hits on the dangers of self-serving ministries, focused more on money than on the Lord, and its effects on those who believe in it. The other message refers to television itself. The idea being that much of what people do is based (wrongly) upon what they see from televsion.I see the wealthy guyThe world in his eyesHe need not contain no pain or shame"And never will," I cryAnd I'm a dirty wordYou know I'm so absurdIf I write things off as meaninglessSo I'm never heardStare and no care into nowhereRound and round pounds the sound insideWe never give it upWell, I can never live up and the box won't shut upGround me out without a doubtWe never give it upSo I didn't need a book to get the certain look nowWell, I just tune it inSo this is what it means to liveAnd I am really freeCause you and me are we and howWe always fit right inSo this is what it means to liveAnd now I'm turning blueWithout a thing to doCause I'm wrapped, enthralled and my brain it stallsI can't think it thruGive me a second chanceI'll learn your happy danceCause I want to be in, forget the sinYou'd think I'm in a tranceHave you gotears to hearAnd would you draw so nearCause it's got things to say and us to changeYou know you needn't fearSo make your senses softAnd never turn it offJust step inside and join the rideHere's our real God.
