Betty Wright - Tonight Is The Night Lyrics
First of all I’d like to say good eveningAnd we’re so pleased thatSo many of you could come out and shareIn all the love and all the happiness we have in store for youWe want you to have a real good time‘Cause that’s just what we have in mindIs that alright with youNow, this is a tune that I composedAnd it’s calledTonight is the nightThat you make me a womanNow I never intended recording this songIt was a personal poemThis is until the day that my producerHappened to thumb through the pages of my notebookHe came across the words and he said“We got to somethin’ with these wordsIt’s happening every dayAnd people wanna hear about it, Bettyâ€You see, it’s the story of a young girlMaking love for the very first timeNow when I finally got a melodyI took it home and I-I played it for my motherNow I got to tell you a little bit about my motherYou see I come from one of those pretty large familiesAnd I’m the baby of the familyAnd you know you never grow up to your motherI’ll never forget the way she looked at me when I played it for herShe said, “Uh, I like the musicYou know, baby, the melody it’s really niceBut I know you’re not gonna sing that songâ€But we eased it right on by, yes, we didAnd it became one of my biggest records tooSo I want you to do this for me if you willEverybody think back to your very first timeNow I’ll give you a little while longer‘Cause I know some of youHave to think back a little further than othersCome on now, I want you to play catch-up‘Cause I don’t want you waitin’ till I get to the end of my songSayin’, “Oh, yeah, now I rememberâ€Now whether it was goodOr you just smilin’ it was goodOr on the other hand if it was not so goodHere’s my storyHmm...hmm...mmm...mmm...Tonight is the nightThat you make me a woman, mmm...You said you’ll be gentle with meAnd I-I hope you will, mmm...mmm...I’m nervous and I’m tremblin’Waitin’ for you to walk inI’m tryin’ hard to relaxBut I just can’t keep still, noI can hear your car door slammin’I wanna play big girl and put on a sexy smileBut I know so little about what love isI just can’t help actin’ like a childYou’re knockin’ on my door and you’re ringin’ my bellHope you’re not impatient after waiting so very longA whole year I put you off with my silly hang-upsAnd we’re both old enough to know right from wrongTonight is the nightThat you make me a woman, mmm...You said you’ll be gentle with meAnd I-I hope you will, hmm...mmm...I’m nervous and I’m tremblin’Waitin’ for you to walk inTryin’ hard to relaxBut I just can’t keep stillMmm...hey, babyHo, ho, babyHo...yeah...yeah...Oh, but what if my mama should come home earlyAnd catch us doin’ what we’re doin’Not only will I never live it downBut my whole family relationship it’ll all be ruinedBut we’ve gone a little bit too far nowOh, to turn aroundSo let’s just prayThat true love is what we’ve foundTonight, tonightTonight, tonightHo, I’ll never forget tonightNo, no, I’ll never forget tonightThat’s when you make me feel real, mmm...hmm...You make me feel real, real goodOh...oh...whoa...oh...oh...whoa...whoa...Yeah, and I wanna thank your loveSaid I’ve got to thank your love‘Cause you make me feel goodAnd I love you, babyI love you and I know itAnd I ain’t too proud to show it‘Cause I love you, babyAnd I need you, babyI want you, my love, my loveMy, my, my babyI’ll never forget tonightNo, I’ll never forget tonight‘Cause you make me feel goodAnd I love you, babyYou make me feel real goodAnd I love you, baby‘Cause you gave meUh, uh, pure love, yeahUh, uh, uh, pure loveSaid I like that, babyUh, uh, pure loveSaid I need that, sugarUh-uh-uh, pure loveThere’s nothin’ phony about itUh-uh, pure loveYour love I can’t do without itUh-uh-uh, pure love, oohI love him, I know itI ain’t too proud to show itI love him, I know itI ain’t too proud to show itI love him, I know itI ain’t too proud to show itI love him, I know itAnd I ain’t too proud to show itTonight, tonightTonight, tonightMmm...mmm...mmm...Thank youThank you
